Summary:
Initially, headed for an orphanage, Bo finds an unusual home with two gold miners from an Eskimo village in Alaska. Chronicling her adventures, trials, and fun is the basis of this book. Being raised by two male gold miners does not have any effect on Bo's bringing up. She has such adventures as seeing her first plane, riding on a sled pulled by dogs, and meeting lots of really awesome characters along the way. This book, much like Little House on the Prairie, is a story of a young, open-minded girl on a frontier where the sky is the limit.

Response Associated with the Book: Literature Circles
Example:
My role in the literature circle was to be the Discussion Director. I was in charge of making sure everyone in my group stayed on task, and invited each person to partake in the conversation. I made sure every base of the circle was covered and everybody got to participate. After all parts were accounted for, and each person got to fulfill their role, I did not know ahead of time if we would have a lot of time left over, so I had constructed a list of questions pertaining to the book that might ignite discussion about the book. Some popular themes that appeared in the literature circle pertaining to Bo at Ballard Creek was that there was not a plot line, and that the book simply was chronicling her adventures. Some agreed, others disagreed. Another really interesting point that came up was whether the book would be contested because Bo was being raised by two men, and had two dads.
