Response Associated with this Book: Artifact/Explanation/Museum
This response included picking an object in the book, locating it physically. And doing a write up including: What is it? Where did it appear in the book? Why is it significant? (How does it influence the story?). We then brought the objects and write-ups into class, presented each of them and then set up a "museum" and displayed all of the artifacts along with explanations. We then did a walk-through of the museum.
Example:
I brought a rock to class accompanied with the following explanation:
What is it? A Phoenix Stone
Where did it appear in the book? It appeared throughout the book and was a main plot device used by the author.
Why is it significant? (How does it influence the story?) Cursed be the owner of this stone as all of its owners have perished because of fire. The curse can transfer to a child who happens to have the same birthday as the original owner of the stone. Cassandra had plans for the stone as she sensed her impending doom. Ultimately, Clara breaks out of her puppet state and destroys the stone and in doing so defeats Cassandra.
